Steve was the ‘faith’ representative on the Bradford Metropolitan Council, Youth Work Forum responsible for developing a new way for funding youth work. “I have a passion for working with young people, supporting them and advocating on their behalf. I have previously worked as a Parish Youth Worker for ten years and fully understand the joys and challenges of such a role. Supporting and mentoring those now performing such a task is hugely rewarding. Since taking on a wider role in the diocese I have been able to build local networks of youth workers who meet regularly and offer one another peer support as well as being supported by the diocese. I work with youth workers who are from a wide range of contexts from deeply rural to suburban and urban contexts and through these networks I have been responsible for planning and pioneering new work across the diocese and beyond. Steve served as Ambassador for Sport for the Diocese of Leeds, representing the Diocese at both the National Church of England Consultation on Sports Ministry and the Church of England Conference on “Ministry of Sport” at Trent Bridge. Steve was also Diocesan President for the Children’s Society, a national charity that runs local services, helping children and young people when they are at their most vulnerable, and have nowhere left to turn and campaigning for changes to laws affecting children and young people, to stop the mistakes of the past being repeated in the future. He enjoys the mountains, exploring new places and collecting Star Wars Lego.
